I found your substack through an Instagram creator’s review and looked you up. As someone who isn’t from fashion but loves to educate herself on fashion, I’m super happy to be on your platform! :)
Thank you for this article, I found it very interesting! I just started following you to get deeper into fashion culture and hope to read more in the future :)
Zoot suits are a subject by themselves and are a really deep and political meaning. They originate in Congo where the locals defied the Belgian colonialists by being more elegant than them. It created a whole movement popularised by the singer Papa Wemba, and is still living today with the name of "sapologie" !
I'm new here and loved the article! When you mentioned Bill Cunningham's work ,it immediately reminded me of a Tumblr account named NYC Looks (they also shoot super edgy styles in New York), so I had to share it. As a suggestion for a new topic, I would love to hear your thoughts on punk style and how it connects with political activism.
I saw someone’s TikTok about your substack and this got me into substack in general. I kind of assumed you’ve been doing this since forever as you seem to know how to do it, and choose interesting topics plus articulate them well. I hope you keep going, I enjoy it deeply 🫶
Wow! You've made me think of fashion in a whole new light. And when I look at my choices it makes perfect sense! It also makes sense why I yearn to dress how I feel or want to say. If that makes sense. It's low-key the reason why I bought a sewing machine and learn how to sew, so I can make my own clothes on my own pace and not be constrained by money. Amazing essay!
I too came here from instagram, as a teenager who is told again and again to "dress it down" I am finding this substack really comforting. I have a suggestion btw - Skinny jeans , i feel like they deserve an essay about them, how they are being overly hated nowadays and whether they are worthy of a comeback and ways they can be styled, etc etc. Love your work Morgan <3
Found you and substack on instagram. I love when life lines things up for me because we just had bell hopkins reading due today and now I’m reading your article. Thank you for this piece!!
On another note help but remember how fashion dictated your political stance in ‘Persepolis’. Fundamentalist men had a full beard with shirt hung out while Progressive men were shaved with properly tucked shirts. Women also quietly opposed fundamentalists by letting a few strands of hair show. Then there’s any support of music and media merchandise also being against fundamentalism. I had never put all of this together. amazing
I l joined sub stack because I saw someone talk about "gatekept". I really enjoyed reading this. It was well written and knowledgable in a fun way.
Thanks AJ!!

I haven’t seen Persepolis but I just put it on my “to watch” list!! Looks super interesting!
It’s a graphic novel!! Super easy read but also political, and super interesting if you want to deep dive :)
Very well written & articulated! It has two of my current favourite things: fashion & keeps me away from doomscrolling! I'm hooked.
ANYTHING to keep away the doomscrolling
Omg this was so good
thank you!!
My new favorite fashion blogger!!
STOP I’m crying thank you!!
